Business records, 1830-1864.

This collection contains two record books. The first volume, 1830-1864, lists shareholders of the bank and the number of shares they owned. It also records the sale of shares. The second volume, 1834-1838, records the daily transactions of the bank. There are also three loose items, including announcements for examinations of the bank's books.

The Central Bank, the second bank in Worcester, Mass., was chartered in 1829 with a capital of $100,000. The first president was Benjamin Butman (1787-1872), and George Augustus Trumbull (1792-1868) served as cashier from 1829 to 1836. In 1864 the bank received a national charter and became the Central National Bank. In 1903 it passed into the ownership of the Worcester Trust Company.
